William Kaye Estes Essay William Kaye Estes is one among the founders of mathematical psychology and a leading statistical learning theorist. Estes demonstrated the comparison of experimental observations of behavior with computer simulation model. His work of mathematical psychology reflects theoretical matters relating to perception, choice, learning, memory and categorization. A major concern about the theorist is creation of clear understanding and application of statistical methods in psychology. One major consideration in mathematical psychology is the application of Markov process in real life situations. Markov process arises in statistics and probability. It is a random process whereby expected or future behavior cannot be predicted by considering past behavior (FABBS Foundation, n d). Some applications of Markov analysis in real life situation is in the case of traffic flow, business behavior or progress of an epidemic. A real life situation reflected in Markov analysis is traffic flow which is a major problem in many parts of the world especially developing cities. Markov process as is applied in traffic flow clearly describes probalistic behavior of traffic queues in many urban centers. This is applied properly in areas that are closely seen especially in an intersection considering spatial extension. Markov process is applied in traffic flow in estimation of travel times that is vehicles arrivals and departure or traffic volumes through applications of origin destinations. Detecting devices record the arrival and departure time of vehicles, airplanes or trains. Vehicle concentration at various road segments is a clear indication of a posterior distribution which provides a clear estimate of traffic flow (FABBS Foundation, n d). Estimation of origin destinations is difficult but application of simulation model easily finds traffic counts at intersections. Norman Bridwell Essay --
"Sometimes you'll do something that you really like and no one else does,â⬠said Norman Bridwell. Norman Bridwell has proved that if you like something you just go with what you want. He proved it when he was in high school; he liked to write but the teachers didnââ¬â¢t appreciate it. After taking a look at the life and work of Norman Bridwell, it is apparent that this writer deserves recognition as a profound American author. Norman Bridwell was born on February 15, 1928 in Kokomo, Indiana (TEACHERS). He always dreamed of going to college to study to be an instructor but he never had enough confidence to do it (About the Clifford). It took him a long time to get his confidence back; once he got his confidence back he went to college and studied what he wanted. He was not good at any sports, he was a nerdy kid in highschool so he was bullied a lot. One day his gym teacher gave him a pencil and a notebook so when he had gym he would draw or write stories (TEACHERS). To My Grown-Up Son or Daughter by Alice E. Chase My hands were busy through the day, I didnââ¬â¢t have much time to play The little games you asked me to, I didnââ¬â¢t have much time for you. Iââ¬â¢d wash your clothes; Iââ¬â¢d sew and cook, But when youââ¬â¢d bring your picture book And ask me, please, to share your fun, Iââ¬â¢d say, ââ¬Å"A little later, hon. â⬠Iââ¬â¢d tuck you in all safe at night, And hear your prayers, turn out the light, Then tiptoe softly to the door, I wish Iââ¬â¢d stayed a minute more. For life is short, and years rush past, A little boy grows up so fast, No longer is he at your side,His precious secrets to confide. The picture books are put away, There are no childrenââ¬â¢s games to play, No goodnight kiss, no prayers to hear, That all belongs to yesteryear. My hands once busy, now lie still, The days are long and hard to fill, I wish I could go back and do, The little things you asked me to. To My Grown-Up Mom Your hands we re busy through the day You didnââ¬â¢t have much time to play. The little things Iââ¬â¢d ask of you, You took the time to see, to doâ⬠¦ You washed my clothes, youââ¬â¢d sew and cook. (The best damn Halloween costumes that town had ever seen, I might add! And when Iââ¬â¢d bring my picture book, your dark, thick outlines and perfect strokes had me mesmerized. You tucked me in, all safe at night. Ran your fingers across my temple ââ¬â¢til my eyes shut tight. I do the same for Mika, now. An inherited maternal signature passed on somehow. I wonder, sometimes, if life is really as short as we think it is. I watch the years rush past and donââ¬â¢t have all the answers, yet. But time brings wisdom, wrinkles, and opportunities to learn. I grew out of goodnight kisses and picture books. I canââ¬â¢t hear you creaking across the floor hen I sleep, anymore. No fingers on my temple when Iââ¬â¢m tired. My hands are pretty busy, now. Yours are, too. We canââ¬â¢t go ba ck and do the things we used to do. But in this moment I can stop and thank you for your water-soaked raisin fingers (after doing another stack of dishes! ) I can thank you for the Halloween costumes and picture books, the temple rubs and time spent investing in love. I know sometimes it probably wasnââ¬â¢t easy to take and make the time, but every moment counted and I wanted you to know I couldnââ¬â¢t have done it without you.

Poetry Analysis Of The Cave By Mumford And Sons - 847 Words
Poetry Response: The Cave ââ¬Å"The Caveâ⬠by Mumford and Sons is a song. The song expresses the feeling of darkness and being lost. It is about finding the strength and hope to keep going. ââ¬Å"But I will hold on hope,â⬠(line 9) and ââ¬Å"And Iââ¬â¢ll find strength in pain,â⬠(line12). The speaker is the songwriter and band members who made the song. The tone is one of which not easily distinguished. The speaker seems hopeful and full of strength, ready to move on and become free. He also seemed understanding, as if he knows how you feel and has felt that way himself. The song is forty-four lines in all with a consistent line length, where its not too long or too short. The poem uses free form allowing the freedom to say what was needed. It allowed himâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This refers to Odysseusââ¬â¢ journey and the time he was tied to the post, his crewââ¬â¢s ears covered in glue, while sirens called out trying to convince them to listen. The song uses different figurative language to provide imagery. In lines one and two it says, ââ¬Å"Its empty in the valley of your heart The sun, it rises slowly as you walk.â⬠This is a simile and a metaphor as one line uses as and the other does not. It also says, in lines ten and eleven, ââ¬Å"And I wonââ¬â¢t let you choke on the noose around your neck.â⬠This compares a noose to how the darkness they are fighting is holding them back and keeping them from living. Itââ¬â¢s a metaphor. The song uses imagery when he says ââ¬Å"So come out of your cave walking on your hands And see the world hanging upside down,â⬠(lines 29-30) this gives you something to see and gives a better understanding of the meaning. The song has an irregular rhyme scheme but still, holds a musical effect. It doesnââ¬â¢t take away from the song but adds depth to it allowing you to see that whats important are the words and the meaning behind them not how pretty it would sound. The rhyt hm allows for the tone to shine through as with certain parts, it takes a longer time to read and the other times it is much faster.
